KUSSI 2nd Anniversary Public Lecture
“Asia's educational achievement gaps: a labor market perspective”

2018.04.11

Developing Asia has made great progress in education. However, large achievement gaps remain, especially among specific groups such as internal migrants and ethnic minorities. Drawing mainly from Vietnamese data, I review causes and implications of some persistent achievement gaps. I focus in particular on labor markets as arenas in which economic growth and globalization have differential effects on schooling choices by adolescents who are heterogeneous in terms of endowments and opportunities. The talk concludes with a discussion of options for education and economic development policy.
Everyone is welcome to participate. No registration is required.
